Silfies Takes Carlisle By Storm

Nazareth, PA – FT Silfies Inc., a regional mid Atlantic dry bulk carrier entered 11 of its tractors and tractor/trailer combinations in the Annual Carlisle All Truck Nationals in August 2007.

“This event is huge and this was by far the most stringent competition that I’ve ever seen here,” stated Randy Sheeler, President & CEO.  “We enter this competition more for our drivers than anything else mainly because the drivers, who are company drivers, have taken such pride in their assigned company tractors, that they want to show everyone how much they care bout what they do and how they do it.  This year was amazing in that we saw equipment that looked like it never toughed the road,” added Sheeler.

Once again, Mike van Blargan took top honors in the tank truck division with his Mack Rawhide.  “This truck is amazing and it now has 140,000 miles on it and runs every single day.  We did something really special for Mike a few weeks prior to the show.  His tank is a 2006 Trail King and he usually spends endless days before the show polishing the entire unit only to have it discolor once he goes back to work.  We clear coated the tank with AlumaClear after he put over 72 hours into cleaning and polishing the trailer.  Now he simply blows the cement off with a high pressure hose and it looks like if just came from the factory,” added Jim Niness, Silfies Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Kerry Peddigree took third place in the tank truck division with his 2006 orange Mack Vision.  Kerry added a lot of the chrome to his tractor with his own money and it looks fantastic.  “In the middle of the winter where the puddles in the parking lot are frozen over, you can see Kerry out there hosing down the road dirt from his tractor,” according to Rich Fibick, the Nazareth, PA Terminal Manager.

Lastly, Ernie Kocher took first place in the pre 1997 bobtail division with a 1997 Freighliner classic that was Mike van Blargan’s old tractor.  This tractor has over 800,000 miles on it and it’s primarily now used as a short distance preload tractor.  Ernie did a fantastic job preparing this tractor.
