Silfies Lands Mittal Steel in Coatesville, PA

FT Silfies has been awarded a contract to haul flum dust out of Mittal Steel in Coatesville, PA and that is significant to our President & CEO, Randy Sheeler.  “I grew up in Coatesville, about 2 miles from this plant that was originally Lukens Steel, and several friends and family members worked at the mill for many many years.  The steel mill put Coatesville on the map and many of my friends fathers worked in the mill right out of high school.  My aunt was an administrative assistant at Lukens for 42 years.”

It was significant for me to get this account to bring a little part of myself and Silfies back to Coatesville,” stated Sheeler.  “The people at Mittal have been great to deal with and we covered every base as to how significant a player Silfies wanted to be, along with the fact that I’ve driven past this plant everyday for years and it’s such a significant part of
Coatesville,” added Sheeler.

FT Silfies is a major player in dry bulk transportation in the East and has many years experience handling flum dust, which is a low level hazardous waste that is produced by the kilns in the melting process of steel.  There is significant documentation in handling hazardous waste which ensures that the waste stream is disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.  The State College, PA terminal has years of experience in handling waste and Bradley Gensimore, Terminal Manager, was a significant player in allowing Silfies to be awarded this contract.  During the initial meeting, Jim Niness, Executive Vice President and COO, Chris Silfies, Regional Operations Director and Brad Gensimore, Terminal Manger, were all representing Silfies and were all 2nd and 3rd generation family trucking members.  Jim’s grandfather started Leaman Bros., which later became Chemical Leaman Tank Lines of Exton, PA, the largest bulk tank truck carrier in the country.  Chris Silfies’ is the grandson of the late Forrest T. Silfies, who started FT Silfies over 60 years ago and Bradley Gensimore is the grandson of the original owner of Gensimore Trucking of Pleasant Gap, PA, which was purchased by Silfies in March 2006.

That’s impressive to say the least to have all that knowledge and experience representing Silfies.
